Åboholm – our vision
We – Bruno and Noëmi – are from Switzerland and are authors of children’s books and novels.
We run a little publishing house (kwasi verlag), which specialises in neurodivergent topics (high sensitivity, autism, ADHD, etc.).
We also co-founded the Neurodiversity Association and have witnessed how difficult it is for many neurodivergent people to cope in today’s world.
This is only rarely due to these people and much more often due to the fact that many in our society do not find a suitable environment in which to realise their potential.
We have five children who are (almost) grown up and going their own way. We are happy to have them with us again and again in Åboholm.
Our dream is to make Åboholm a place that is both a recreational space and a centre of vision. We want to bring nature back into our lives and want people who visit Åboholm to find their way back to their own nature.
We believe that several factors are important in achieving this goal.
First of all, Åboholm is a place far away from the hustle and bustle of the world. The clocks run slower here and nature is omnipresent.
We see health, sustainability and beauty as central building blocks for a blissful being. That’s why we pay attention to what we surround ourselves with and what we eat.
Our food is organic, seasonal, home-grown wherever possible and lovingly prepared at home.
We avoid the distractions of television and the internet.
Our furnishings are simple, cosy, natural and traditional. In Åboholm you will find second-hand furniture, organic cotton bed linen and plastic-free equipment as far as possible.
We heat largely with wood that we collect and cut in our forests and use only biodegradable soap, cleaning products and detergents.
This year we are starting to create the permaculture garden: raise beds for organic vegetables, more berry bushes and fruit trees as well as flowers for us and the insects. In addition, there are piles of branches and other structures for insects and small creatures.
Åboholm is already being visited by wild animals. So far we have seen white-tailed eagles, white-throated dippers among many other birds, otters and deer, as well as the tracks of moose, lynx, beaver, fox and hare.
Together with dedicated volunteers and friends, we are now trying out what we want to do with our long-term guests: working, cooking, eating, feeling life, exploring individual strengths together and how we can use them to make the world a better and more beautiful place.
